This is my opening first post on this new blog. I used to have a blog at this same url through 2015-2016. Unfortunately I lost the original post archive, so I only have the generated html. One day I’ll work out a way of reverse-generating markdown from html, and then add all my old posts. Otherwise they’ll disappear, and maybe that’s ok.

Todo:

  1. Create an easy ‘new post script’ so I don’t have to mess around with the front matter when starting a new post.
  2. Learn how to use SCSS. Last time I messed around with the CSS and broke everything and it was fun. Now that I’m abstracted one level away from the actual style sheet it’s not as easy to just change stuff and see what happens.
  3. I need a better way of managing media which doesn’t devolve to just sticking everything in a huge directory. I’m going to try to keep this blog lean, especially since space is very tight on my laptop.
  4. I’m not entirely happy with the Ruby install on my laptop, as I installed it via a different method to before, and in order to run Ruby commands I have to start my terminal as a login shell. Supposedly it breaks other shell software, but I don’t really care about that. What does bother me is that whenever I open the terminal there’s a brief 1-2 second delay before the first prompt appears. Without the login shell, it opens instantly. It feels like a bodge, but now that it’s on my system it’s not super easy to remove it and start again.

Lately I’ve been listening to ces temps-ci by Les Cowboys Fringants.
