Our department has a Virtual Reality studio; this week it was all set up with an Oculus Rift and we got to play with Google Earth VR.
Here’s one of my colleagues, Dave Ashby, all plugged in with the headset and controllers.
Zooming around somewhere in the USA? He ended up clipping through the ground.
I also got to try it.
I looked at a city, and a mountain range.
Matthieu was in Switzerland at the weekend, he got to look at some mountains in real life.
It’s almost the same thing?
Apparently somewhere there is a 360° 3D camera, which we can use in tandem with the VR setup. I’m trying to think of (serious academic) reasons to use it at some point in the future.
