Big pink pen
in Oxford
Last weekend I went to Oxford, and briefly, London.
A tall pen sculpture has appeared outside the Blavatnik Government School in Jericho. ✎
The sculpture is by Michael Craig-Martin, who explained its meaning as follows:
The image I proposed for Oxford was that of a fountain pen. The image can be seen as a reference to serious study and learning.
It’s lit from below at night, and if you look down you’ll see a brown metal panel instructing ‘do not touch’.
So of course I reached out to rap the pen with my fingers; it’s not hollow, it feels solid, like it could be made of hard plastic.
